In high school, I became interested in traditional Japanese Raku pottery , contemporary sculpture, Impressionist painting, and many of the design movements, especially Art Nouveau and the American Crafts movement. Continuing my education at Cypress College I retained my focus on ceramics while exploring many different mediums and processes. During this time period, I taught ceramics and 3-d crafts at Girls & Boys Clubs in the Garden Grove area. After attaining an Associate Arts Degree I transferred to Cal State University Fullerton. I became obsessed with glass blowing while at C.S.U.F. where I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1995. During this time period I was compelled to set aside my academic study of ceramics to pursue glass casting, Pate de Vere, as well as doing Glass Blowing demonstrations at Knott's Berry Farm. I received my Master of Arts Degree with honors in 1998. One of my greatest joys in life is to demonstrate this process to people of all different ages and backgrounds. I have demonstrated at Knotts’ Berry Farm and Los Angeles County Fair and have been demonstrating at the Orange County Fair for the last 8 summers. I worked for Bruce Fruend and Gavin Heath at the Laguna Art Festival. Children and adults alike are fascinated by the glassblowing process. When the blowpipe comes out the crowd gathers. CJK Blown Glass, established 1993, moved from Fullerton in 1999 to Upland, California. Retail locations are provided in the Shows section of this site.
I also enjoy taking individuals and small groups on guided hikes and excursions to wilderness areas and historically significant mining sites, please call for rates and available times. |
